In the meeting of the TUSIAD High Consultation Board, Ozilhan said that Turkey, that had decided 40 years ago that her future was in Europe, was becoming a part of it day by day. According to Ozilhan, EU opponents within Turkey failed to understand that a Turkey that had cut her connections with Europe would be a source of instability, which was open and vulnerable to any kind of negative external influence.
Ozilhan said, “The top priority should be proceeding in the EU process. All international relations, including the Cyprus issue, should be viewed from this perspective. Since our future project is EU, we should not divert our attention from this project and we should determine our policies in line with the requirements of this objective.”
Ozilhan stated that Turkey had to stay firm with regard to political stability and democracy. According to Ozilhan Islamic values should be harmonized with democracy in a way to embrace the democratic norms of the West.
Regarding economic developments, Ozilhan said that improvements in 2003 should not make Turkey lethargic because 2004 would be a difficult year.
