Looter in VIP Lounge Drives Minister Crazy

Justice Minister got very angry when he saw a bank looter in the VIP lounge of the Ataturk airport. He said "I saw a man whose bank has been confiscated, in the VIP lounge of the airport. I am paying the one-month salary of an office clerk, with the price of his shoes. I investigated into how this man was hosted in the VIP lounge and saw that he had a state merit medal."  
Appeals Court President: My Mother Also Wear Headgear But Turban Is A Political Symbol
Eraslan Ozkaya, the President of the High Appeals Court, said that the stance of the Appeals Court towards turban should inspire other courts as well and that courtrooms constituted the leading section of “public places,” where laws should be implemented.

The confidentiality of the regulations and staff of the National Security Board (MGK) Secretariat General were decided to be removed. The government started to work on the relevant motion composed of two articles, since military officials accepted its proposal.

“Secret and urgent” cryptograms delivered by the U.S. Embassy in Ankara to Washington between June 12, 1997 and June 20, 1997 reveal that U.S. had no idea on whether there could be a de facto military intervention in Turkey or not. 
U.S. Give Up Sending Turkish Troops

While publicizing the rotation plan of her troops in Iraq, U.S. did not include Turkish troops in her projections of military force for 6 months later. This reportedly indicates that the Bush administration gave up the idea of sending Turkish troops to Iraq because of the reaction of the majority of Iraqis and in line with the views of Paul Bremer, the Civilian Administrator of U.S. in Iraq. 
Murder In Deputy Lodging

Investigation regarding the murder of Mustafa Gungor, the son of former deputy Erol Gungor who was killed in deputy lodgings, is being re-opened upon the order of Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu. A special team will be formed so as to interrogate those deputies, who were not questioned at the time because of their immunities. 
Kretschmer: You Will Get Funds If You Deserve

H. Jorg Kretschmer, EU Ambassador to Ankara, gave the message that; Materialize the reforms, then it will come to increasing financial assistance. Kretschmer said that the direct economic support that EU would give and the amount of the loans that the Union would extend to Turkey depended on the decision regarding full membership of Turkey, that would be taken at the end of 2004. 
Turbaned Defendant Could Not Enter Court Hall
Hatice Hasdemir, an administrator in BELKO, who is one of the defendants in the case in which Ankara Metropolitan Mayor I. Melih Gokcek and Municipality Council members are being tried, was not allowed to enter the court hall on grounds that she was wearing turban.  
Did Revolts in Prison Result from Torture?
The revolt, which ensued in the boys’ ward of the Buca Prison in Izmir and was quelled by the gendarme, raised the allegations of torture to agenda. The attorneys of the Anti-Torture Committee of the Izmir Bar claimed that children between 15 and 18 had been exposed to systematic torture made by soldiers and guardians.
