The government predicts a loss of 200 trillion TL because of the cancellation of the extra vehicle tax. The amount, which was paid by taxpayers up to now for this tax item, will be deducted from the future taxes. This will further increase the amount of loss. In order to compensate for that loss, the Finance Ministry is preparing another arrangement.

When the Constitutional Court cancelled the additional motor vehicle tax, a new arrangement, vehicle taxes, was introduced in its place. However the Constitutional Court cancelled it too. Those who paid the additional vehicle tax will deduct half of this amount from the motor vehicle tax, that will be paid in January 2004. The loss of the state will be compensated by the new “revaluation rate,” which it will issue. The Finance Ministry can increase the revaluation rate for motor vehicle tax up to 45%.
