Edelman: We Expect Military Contribution of Turkey
In his meeting with Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Eric Edelman said that they would be pleased if Turkey sent troops to Iraq. Edelman said that Turkey and U.S. were strategic partners and this mentality would remain as such. Gul said that the government was tackling the issue of sending troops to Iraq both in itself and together with the General Staff. Gul told Edelman, “Your presence in Turkey, as a close working friend of Deputy President Dick Cheney, is a reflection of the importance U.S. attaches to Turkey." |

Spain Changes the Fate of Balat
The Municipality of Barcelona won the EU bid for the protection of cultural heritage in Balat, Istanbul. If the project succeeds, Istanbul’s other historical districts will be restored and repaired. After Istanbul was included in 1985, into the UNESCO Convention for Protecting the World Heritage, feasibility work was carried out in historical Balat in 1997. At present, the Spanish team is carrying out the project under EU supervision and the Fatih Municipality is providing technical infrastructure. |
