“… A controversy emerged when Full General Cetin Dogan told journalists, who asked about his views on the issue of sending troops to Iraq, “We caused Turkish soldiers to die in Galicya and Yemen. We are still asking ourselves the reason of it.” It is obvious that Gen. Dogan revealed his negative approach regarding the issue of sending troops and gave a strong message to the Turkish public with these words. Gen. Dogan may reflect the view of the society in general.
“…Citizen Cetin Dogan has the right to voice his opinions and take part in the demonstrations organized by the non-governmental organizations. However, he has no power to act like an ordinary citizen while he was still wearing a uniform and bearing the responsibility of being a member of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).
“… Before Gen. Dogan made this statement, the General Staff communicated its positive views, regarding the issue of sending troops to Iraq, to the government…A contradiction appears when the highest institution of TSK embraced an attitude but a member of this institution acts to the contrary…You can be sure that some circles, who desire to see TSK as divided and weak, are watching this picture with great pleasure.”
