“Shall Turkey send troops to Iraq? This question is not important any more. No doubt we cannot remain silent to the fire next to our door. However I am not one of those who want to send troops to Iraq for economic or political reasons. I do not want Turkey to send troops to Iraq as a security force for U.S. But Iraq is undergoing a big disaster, like an earthquake, a formidable epidemic, or a fire. This transcended the dimensions of an occupation…I do not want to just watch this catastrophe. Then this question comes into my mind: Will Turkey’s sending troops be sufficient in today’s conditions? It will not. If our only aim is to please U.S., get a few tenders, have political dreams, and to open a few hospitals and schools but not to say “We accomplished our duty as a neighbor,” then, what we do will not be sufficient.”
