12 deputies from AKP and CHP have been representing Turkey in the Assembly of Parliamentarians and they were able to make their addresses in Turkish by means of simultaneous translators working in the hall.
The official languages of the Council were English and French, but Turkish, German, Italian, Spanish, Greek and Russian languages were also used as “working languages”.
A high-ranking official from the Foreign Ministry said that, “Mr. Arinc did not inform us about his decision. However, Turkish was adopted as an international language at the Council of Europe and this was an issue of prestige for us. It would have been better to apply saving measures in other fields.”
